Ok, when most people think of cardio, they think of running, or biking, or anything like that. Well I had a question... When I actually work out, but my heartrate is up, and I'm sweating alot, am I burning fat? Or do I still need to do cardio? I don't have much fat if any to burn, I just need to gain muscle.

Chances are that you are not burning fat if you are just lifting unless you are doing a bootcamp or bodypum style class . Sweating does not necessitate fat burning nor does elevated heartrate unless it is "elevated" above your target zone AND maintained for a sustained period of time

If you have little or no fat to lose, you should probably not be doing much if any cardio , unless you want to do it to increase energy and keep the ol heart strong - Then eat a couple of hundred extra calories a day (to maintain a positive caloric balance and feed your muscles) make sure that you are eating 1.3 - 1.8 g/kilo of body weight in protein and.. have at

Okay, way more than you wanted to know.. but I was on a roll

If your heart rate is up for 20min straight then you will get the cardio benefits meaning heart and lung conditioning. To burn fat you must workout at a cardio pace for 40min+. Before that you'll be burning mostly glucose.

your body is fueled by the fats in our body. as long as we burn enough axcess energy from the recent calories we consumed from our food, the body will then use up the energy provided by the fats. if you had just had a huge spanking steak and chocolate creme cake (approx 1,800 calories) and only worked out in the gym 20 minutes (approx 500 calories) you won't be losing any weight no matter how much you sweat or how much your heart rate is. what is important is the calory counter.

remember: BURN MORE CALORIES THAN YOU EAT. then you lose weight.

When your heartrate is up, you are doing cardio. If you are using energy, you are burning fat.
