Galleries don't buy paintings, they sell them for a cut of the profit. generally 40%. Their space is limited and they tend to know what sells. Contact a local gallery and show them your work. If they think they can turn a buck on it they will have a show for you. If they don't think it will sell then they won't show it. Try multiple galleries and enter your work into art festivals. I've noticed that a lot of original paintings do not sell very well on ebay, not sure why. Maybe because it's hard to get a true feel for a painting from just a picture online.
Go to local galleries with some samples of your work-a portfolio-to see if they might be interested in showing your work. You might have better luck at smaller, newer galleries, that specialize in contemporary artists. You could also try local businesses and restaurants, they often showcase the work of local artists, and you can price your paintings to sell. Just call, ask if they might be interested in featuring your work, and make an appointment to bring your samples in. Good luck!

Not sure where you are from but in the UK we have arts and crafts fairs where artists can show and sell their work (it can be quite expensive though to book a table)
Failing that, I know my city's art gallery holds open galleries a couple of times per year where artists can submit up to three pieces of work for their consideration and if any get exhibited, they are usually likely to sell.
Try approaching bars/restaurants to see whether they would be prepared/interested in displaying your work in their establishment for a small commission if any are sold?
If that doesn't work - why not invest in a cheaply hosted website? You can showcase all of your work in your own online gallery and provide details of how prosepective buyers can contact you to purchase your pictures - at least that way any money you make is your own and you won't have to pay any commission.

Just look at the number of paintings available on ebay...and remember that people don't ebay to pay high prices. So, contact an interior designer and arrange to show your portfolio. Set up your own Web site but you have to push out invitations to pull people to it. Donate a good painting to a high visibility fundraiser and consider the loss of income the price of marketing.
Create postcards of your work and mail them to your mailing list of potential buyers. (This is hard work, but you asked). The list needs to be built over time, and maintained deleting bad adressess and adding new ones. (Hint: Subscribe to gallery email alerts and some sloppy owner may forward his entire list instead of using a distribution list or bcc that mask recipients.) Get a book on marketing and become your own promoter.

You're better off bringing him/her to a vet or shelter where they will talk to the people adopting the animals. On ebay you don't know what kind of person might get him. Think about the cat and a good home for him/her. You must have other options?? Ebay isn't the way to go.

why don't you try a site like deviant art?? www.deviantart.com
and uplosd your artwork there with a post saying if anyone is interested in buying your work to contact you, or deviant will sell prints of your work and give you a small commision.. It's worth a try to get your name out there as deviant has quiet a cult following..
