Most people can eat what they are comfortable with. I advise my tongue pierced clients to avoid certain overly spicy food and food high in sodium. Also food with high acidity; vinegar, citris juice. Often those things can irritate a fresh mouth wound. As long as he cleans his mouth well after eating and drinking and smoking(if he does) there shouldn't be a problem. If its and issue of swelling, try food that can be consumed thru a straw or just swallowed/drank.

He should eat just soup for the first few days, as well as lots of water and icecream or jello, if wanted. Make sure he brushes his teeth at least 2 times a day to prevent plaque or bacteria getting in the wound, and treat it properly.
After that its really just trial and error. He can eat what he sees fit, butif it starts to swell or infect, go back to soup and non-solids. Keep up constant brushing for at least 5 weeks.

Hi Arch, Boy i bet that hurt alot. the best food right now would be liquid.Have a shake, any jucies.milk is good and maybe some sort of protein drink. No soilds until your tongue heals.I don't think jello would hurt you.

it really depends on the pierced as to what is comfortable and uncomfortable. people told me that i could eat rice and mashed potatoes after i got mine done and those really bothered me. anything i could work around the barbell seemed to be better for me. fluids are fantastic and cause little to no pain. always rinse with a mouthwash like biotene (which was recommended to me by my piercer) after eating or anything you do with your mouth. your friend should have gotten some kind of instruction from his piercer. it might recommend salt-water as a wash instead... also, smoking can extend healing time.

strongly tasteing stuff will burn, no salts and no vinigars. and and stay away from spaghetti and spaghettieo's they hurt. and and really hot or really cold stuff too. No straws or bottles, just stick with glasses and other then that, make sure he uses saltwater gargle after every smoke, meal, sugary drink and kiss! you can also use mourthrise, but it has too much sugar for my likeing.
