1. Walk along Khao San Road in Banglampoo area, there're lots of tourists, night life and good bookshops with moderate prices.
2. Contact a travel agency to visit the Rose Garden in Nakhon Pathom (about 35 kilometers from Bangkok) to ride an elephant safely and watch a wonderful series of Thai cultural performances, something in a nutshell.
3. Again, the agency should give you info for visiting some well-known floating markets.
4. If you like adventure and green hills with fresh air, contact TAT (Tourist Authority of Thailand) by visiting its website for a trek or a drive to the highest peak in Thailand, Doi Inthanon, in Chiang Mai. My family visited there some years ago with our children, we love everything there.
5. If your prefer the sea, please have a plan to visit Koh Chang in Trat (my hometown). The word "Koh" is Thai, it's equivalent English one is "Island". A lot of tourists visit there, it's become well-known for its peaceful, calm and relaxing atmosphere.
Welcome and enjoy!

Visit the Tiger Temple in Kanchanaburi, and stay at Apple's Guesthouse while you're there. The Tiger Temple is a Buddhist Monastery where they've taken in orphaned tiger cubs. They're now grown and you can hug them and pet them while the monks look on. Very surreal. Also, the River Kwai is there, and Erawan National park, both very cool places.
There are so many cool places in Thailand. Get tips from other travelers about things you might like to do.
Oh, and if you're in Siem Reap Cambodia, stay at Ivy Guesthouse and meet the owner, Karl. A very cool guy...

If you are young and fit, then you must go trekking in the area around Chiang Mai. Walking in the jungle is a wonderful experience.
Then, in complete contrast, diving or snorkelling in the south is also a great experience.
You can get complete details from The Lonely Planet Guide for Thailand, which is great to carry with you.

You MUST see the temple of the Emerald Buddha on the imperial palace grounds in mid-river in Bangkok.
You MUST plan your trip to occur in JANUARY or nearly-January, when the weather in Thailand is at its best (dry and cool).
Go to Ankar Wat in Cambodia --if ---and only if-- the political situation is stable.
Go to one of the resort towns on the seashore of the Gulf of Siam.
You must walk along Sukumvit Road in Bangkok at night and watch the street vedors and the outdoor Buddhist religious ceremonies.
You must go to some good restaurants --Thai food is delicious and hospitality is a universal, religious thing in Thailand.
