I am a man of science, yes, religons arch enemy. I have come to a conclusion, I may not be a religous person, but I am not ignorant of the topic, I have read the entire Holy Bible from front to back, and I also attended 5 years of catholic school (which I aced), and I have nothing but the utmost respect for all of you people who do believe in God and/or the Bible, it is incredibly hard to have that kind of faith, and for you to have it, my hats off to you all. But math states that 2 + 2 = 4, but do you not realize that the Bible is telling you the answer is 5. Seriously, reread Genesis, and you'll find 3 things where the bible states 2 + 2 = 5, ( the creation of the greater & lesser lights, for example). Even the Bible itself contradicts itself, How is this possible, Believe God, well, maybe, possibly, the bible, no sorry, I can't believe something that calls itself a liar.

I has been obvious that what was recorded in the Bible were bits and pieces of informations. Some chronologically arranged and some were obviously missing a part to make the message complete. Most interpretation are then supplied by people who wanted to claim authority to the works of God.
If you believe in God as you said you did and claimed you really have read the front and back (which I really believe you did also) of the Bible and studied five years in Catholic Schools then I could say you really got the wisdom but somewhere along your other claim that the Bible contradicts itself, it proved also to me that you are no different than those who can memorize a phrase but short of understanding.
I may agree with you if you say that the Old Testament is not in congruency with writings on the New Testament. The Prophets of the Old Testament from The Major Prophets down to its Minor Prophets have always agreed with each other regarding God's Commandments. The NewTestament was a complete reversal of what Jesus is supposed to do for Israel as far as the Ten Commandments is concern even if he said that not even the smallest stroke of a pen shall by any means the Law written by the Prophets disapppear from the Law. He broke the Sabbath Day observation and bragged about his being Lord of Tthe Sabbath.
The Book of Isaiah in 14:12-17 Talked about the name "LUCIFER" in the Latin Vulgate and In King James version whereby other Bibles call him the "Morning Star" and were taught that this was an angel who rebelled against God and yet as you continue to read it down, it says "Is this the man who shook the earth and made the kingdoms tremble?"
The Book of Revelation which is not part of the New Testament, reveals that the'Morning Star" Isaiah was talking about was in REV.22:16 " I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches, I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and THE BRIGHT MORNING STAR."
The New Testament does not have the authorization from God to show consistencies with the Old Testament. All the mysteries of the true God have already revealed long time ago.
Revelation 10: 7 "But in the days when the seventh angel is about to blow his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, JUST AS HE ANNOUNCED IT TO HIS SERVANTS THE PROPHETS.
Amos 3: 7 Surely the Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing his plans ot his servants the Prophets.
Think and think well about 666 as the number of Beasts who has fatally wounded and has been healed. This clearly indicates that the Old Testament stands for 999 and the New was twisted that it became became the beast itself bearing the numbers 666. He is no longer to come he had been here all along and the One who is coming will reveal his true identity. That is what you missed to understand..go to www.thename.ph and find more.

Science is not religion's arch enemy; science is proof of God. The Bible is a book inspired by God. How could you have all of that in your background and not know that. If you truly read the Bible you would have stumbled across the explanation of BLIND FAITH; not believing in the seem but putting your trust in the unseen: Live by faith, not by sight. I have read the Bible through twice and have not come across 2 + 2 = 5. I don't know what you were reading, but it wasn't the Word of God. You didn't even state the contradiction. The Bible is a book sent from the Divine as a guide for us to use here on earth.

I too am a man of science. Everything I have read in the Bible, especially Genesis, has been in perfect correlation with science. The Bible even states the exact order in which the events occured, something that would obviously be impossibly "predicted" by someone who simply wroted the Bible. Even men such as Stephen Hawking, (the genius of todays science world) have been attenting a baptist church on Sundays to see if a personal God exists. So perhaps you are the one misunderstanding todays science world, and not the Christians. I'll take Stephen Hawkings word, and not yours Im sorry to say.

It seems that Science likes to tear apart the Bible, mostly on this contradiction idea, and usually involving Science and Bible stories. Only the Fundamentalists like to believe that every part of the bible is literally true, and idea which is preposterous, and really was magnificently destroyed years ago by Isaac Asimov.
The Bible is not, nor can it be, Literally true.

Truth, however, is a slippery concept.

As a book of philosophy, and religious thought, its the foundation of western civilization, and the truth's that it does contain are timeless, with lessons on morality, and belief in God. So, from years of seeing a Bible used in science class (6 years at a fundamentalist school) I know that it makes a terrible textbook.

Don't attack it on it's science, it's not a Simon and Schuster text book.

Hail Eris! All hail Discordia!

Truth is Truth, and it can be found anywhere, sometimes even on the wrapper for a condom.

1. You don't have to believe the Bible.

2. Science is a good thing. We learn and have learned alot
through science.

3. Reading through the entire Bible does not make you a Bible
scholar. Neither does 5 years of Catholic school, which you're
not learning much Bible anyway.

4. Find those "contradictions" and get with someone who IS a
scholar of the Bible and understand how it correlates. You're
just unlearned.

5. Clever analogy, but the Bible does not state that 2+2=5.

6. God, Jesus, Bible does not call themself a liar. You're
mislead/deceived/Biblically illiterate.

I think that you are absolutely right. The bible is something that was created by man, the dead sea scrolls were founds and through the years religious leaders changed them to suit their needs. The bible is something that became more prominent in the dark ages, and this was a time when women were repressed and all sorts of weird stuff was gonig on, therefore the bible was "warped" to suit the needs at the time and keep people obedient and scared.
I believe in God but there is no way that I will believe in the bible, I have a bible because it is a catholic symbol but not because i actually believe everything in it word for word.

You have a choice about whether to believe the bible or not. You say you have read it front to back. That doesn't mean much...and I don't mean to insult you.

Have you ever really studied it? I would guess no. What do you think about the claims of Jesus....that He is the son of God...that He is the only way to the Father? The things of God are spiritually discerned; trying to turn His word into a math equation...well....all I can do is pray that God will help you seek and find the truth.

like quite a few different critics of the Bible, you have easily no understand-how of what it truthfully says. It does no longer say the heaven and earth have been created in 6 days. you're affected by a analyzing comprehension illness. truthfully, I doubt you even examine financial disaster a million of Genesis, ever. i'm going to help you out. It says, "interior the commencing up" God created the heavens and the earth. How long that "commencing up" became isn't stipulated. the subsequent assertion is with regard to the earth "starting to be" in a state of deterioration and destruction. What follows is a "re" creation as revealed someplace else interior the Bible. yet you're too busy criticizing the Bible to truthfully examine it and comprehend. pass decrease back to sleep now. .

My impression from your question is you are one convoluted soul. I salute your courage in asking this question, though. I hope you can find the answers you're looking for. Your question seems sincere.

1. Science is not the enemy of religion. I've read about a whole community of scientists who have turned to God, and find his Word compatible. Mysterious yes, but growing more compatible the more we discover.

2. Holy Bible from Catholic school? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've been reading quite a lot of criticism about the Catholic way of teaching, and it seems the Church is more interested in teaching ritual and symmetry than they are in helping people understand the progression of God's covenant from the Old Testament, through the New Testament to the Second Coming. I'm a Protestant myself, and I like to take a historian's approach. It's served me well.

3. I've looked through some sources that claim "contradictions" and most of them seem to be sticklers of language and misinterpretations that have arisen from cultural and lingual differences through the ages. The message of God is clear to me. I encourage you to check your sources and maybe find a good Bible study group. I'm sure they'd welcome a man of your education.

4. You seem to be having some trouble reconciling your Catholic upbringing with your scientific worldview. You have my sympathies, but I do hope you keep up your search, and keep an open heart and an open mind.

You don't have to "believe" the Bible, just remember Jesus' commandments: Do unto others as you would have them do to you, and Keep God #1 in your life. I'm sure He'll find a way back to you.

Mr Science man, if you want to know more about science you would read as much as possible on the topic right?? Well if you want to know who God really is you need to read about him in the Bible and also have communion with him through prayer.

You + Jesus + God + the Holy Spirit + the Bible = one
