Entertainment only! Society should NOT judge political decisions or ethical morals based on entertainment celebrities. If Joe Smith is a Libertarian, who cares? Is that going to change my political views? It shouldn't. If Susie Jones believes in sex before marriage, is that right for me as well? No.
I also believe the reverse is true. So Mel Gibson made anit-Semitic comments. So the Dixie Chicks made negative comments about the war. Am I going to stop watching his movies or listening to their music? Hell no. It's good entertainment.
I don't know how you will start your essay, but be very opinionated and make a strong argument to show your viewpoint.
Best wishes!

The role of a celebrity in american public life should be someone who donates money to charities and hold fund raisers. They should also participate in non-profit organizations. loved as the real person and not the role they play. A true american celeb in the public life is usually recognized as a legend.

Why should the opinion of a celebrity (who is by definition paid to entertain) matter more than mine on public policy?
What are the dangers - look under Dixie Chicks in the dictionary
What are the positive results - look under Oprah and also the Dolly Parton literacy program

I would start by saying; Celebrities should stick to entertaining!
Here are some suggestions for your points.
They should raise money to help the needy.
They should raise money to help their government.
They should use their influence to help those who need it.
They could use their infuence to change the minds of gang members.
To help school kids.
To teach good.
They should not be allowed to use their influence to harm;
people, governments of ANY country, they should be tried for treason for mouthing off about their country, president, fellow countrymen, or policies of their country. They should not teach venom. But they do.
Julia Roberts? Good role model? Hell no! Her first big movie glorified prostitution! How many guys did she dump after marrying or pledging to marry? She runs around mouthing off about the president of the United States for God's sake. Good role model? Hell no!
Danny Glover? This guy should be tried and shot for giving comfort to the enemie. Hugo Chavez. His buddy, his pal. This guy is bent on making the US look weak and stupid! Danny Glover is a traitor. Shaun Penn, him too. George Clooney? Should be George Lonney. I must say that the way he is helping out in Africa is honorable. But he is a traitor to his country and his president. I could go on but my fingers are tired.
This is for ANY celebrity from ANY country.
These people have no training with which to influence ANY policy of their government. They are entertainers! Not policy makers. The public tends to see the favorite character that these people have played. Or the favorite joke they have told etc. The ones that go to other countries and bad talk their home land are traitors. Plain and simple. They should be dealt with as traitors. They should be jailed. They have too much influence to be let loose and not held to some standard. If they want to be ambassadors, they should act like ambassadors. Not like traitors!
This is my personal opinion. You may use all or none of it.
Spell check is not working. sorry.

You should always start an essay with a statement of position, like this:
The primary function of celebrities is little different than that of trained circus dogs - they both entertain us. Is there any reason why their opinions on public policy shouldn't be assigned equal weight?

We have become a society that worships celebrities. We forget that they are actually people--people who often share many common things with the common American--people like us. Instead, we put them on high pedestals and try to learn everything we can about them. We sometimes let them become the center of our very lives!
If we stop to think about it, we can see just how ridiculous this is--to develop a fascination with absolutely every facet of the celebrities' lives.
The people around us--the common people who share our goals, our interests, and our values--are far more important to us than any celebrity!
[There's a start--I hope it helps!]

They always have played a huge role in society. Look at ancient ROME even. It's just human nature. We look up to people with status, for whatever reason, and their voices are heard louder than others.
Luckily, in a democracy, they still get one vote. But if people are so fantastically stupid that they would say "I should hate jews, as mel gibson does, and I so admire him"...well thats silly. Do you KNOW anyone that dumb?

To entertain us of course. But please for goodness sake, stay out of politics. These folks have a talent to play sports, sing or act, but that doesn't make them any more qualified that any of us to make a call on politics or stand on a soapbox. It just gives them the forum. Barbaba Steissand is a songbird with wonderful voice, but she is still an ******.
