People who say this often refer to Bible verses that supposedly say that women cannot have authority over men, and that's why women cannot be pastors, priests, etc. If this is so, then is it also a sin for me (as a guy) to get a job where I have a female supervisor?

I think it makes more sense to say that it applies more to church authority and not other things, but I personally think that whole thing was just an opinion of Paul.

I think that a lot of people who want to follow the Bible literally--verse by verse--forget that it was written by people. Oh, I know, they were inspired by the Holy Spirit. Maybe they were, but that doesn't change the fact that they were still people--meaning that they still had biases, opinions, etc. Also, they were still writing within the context of their time.

Then again, maybe I'm a little biased myself, because I don't believe in strict adherence to "traditional" gender roles.

Men wrote that part in the bible to keep women down. Think about it for a minute. It makes sense. They would never have wanted women to get ahead, especially in those times. Women were property then.

No.

(IMHO)
Women have many indispensable supporting roles in the church. Due to the aforementioned scripture I don't believe a senior pastor position should be one of them.

This does not affect secular employment issues.
