Beacuse Benedict is a Bad Azz. No seriously, its the vestiments of the job. This Pope seems like a good guy. He is already under a microscope. How do you live up to the rep of the best Pope of all time?

Because people let him get away with it.
In all fairness though, the Pope doesn't wear that much jewelry. Idiotically ostentatious clothing, sure, but no jewelry.

Most of the wealth of the vatican is in the form of historic treasures and masterpieces.
Look at it this way -- sold, the Mona Lisa would net millions of dollars. Should the Louvre sell it to donate the money to charity? If so... why not just have the guy who'd buy it donate the money himself? And if so, shouldn't the guy who bought it then sell it to donate the money to charity?
The point is, masterpieces and historic artwork have a value far, FAR beyond their material value.

Because in reality,the Pope is a poor person but he lives in a world of riches to fulfill his mission.

Because the Catholic has a long history of pilaginng and stealing from the poor to gain wealth for the holy empire. I don't think this is what God meant when he said tithe.

i thought the pope should be humble and down to earth.weird!!!!!!!.he wears Jewries while Christians r dieing daily in Iraq and Afghanistan

he claims to be Christ on earth, but i dont ever remember hearing about Jesus wearing a bunch of jewelry
