Sometimes if they are lacking intestinal bacteria they will eat poop to try and gain some. You can try giving her some yogurt or some probios. There are also supplements you can feed to prevent copraphagia (poop eating). It makes the poop taste really bad (I would think it's bad already, but who knows).

She is not doing anything that she believes is wrong. She was taught this by her mother, when the mom kept the nest clean. When mom became too overwhelmed to keep clean after all the litter, the pups were good little helpers and did it themselves....They didn't have gloves and bags, so just did it the way they could. She is just being fastidious. Scolding for it will only confuse her. She will not get the point, and you will have a insecure and traumatized dog...The reason that she leaves part of it, is that it is just too much, but she is doing the best she can to clean her own mess..
Dog's ancesters have done this for eons, to keep their area clean and to not let predators know where they live. It is as natural for them as hand washing is for people.
The only solution is to consistantly beat her to it. Hopefully she will learn that you can be trused to clean it up so she doesn't have to.... Meanwhille, there is an additive available at all pet supplies that will make the stuff very bitter.(Forbid) This may help some... Also putting a few pieces of pineapple in her food will do the same..
Note: the ones that do this are usually the easiest to house train, as they are good house keepers

You don't give a lot of information past the problem. If you are crating this dog while you are away, the dog may be doing this in order to keep her small space as clean as possible while she is confined to a small space. You wouldn't like to have to lay beside a pile of poop all day. If this is not the case, you do have the option of immediately picking up the waste before the dog has the opportunity to devore it. Whether it is occurring in your yard or while walking your dog, it's more hygienic to have a clean yard and against the law to not pick up after your dog in public places in most communities. You might try to divert the dogs attention with a small treat while you use you doggie pick up bag to get the mess out of sight.

The best help to curb poop eaters is to keep the stool as cleaned up as possible. I will always joke with people and tell them to teach their dog to poop in a shovel!
There is a product available through your veterinarian called "For-Bid". It is an additive for the dog's food that supposedly will make the stool less desirable for them (as if it already isn't!).
Some people have success with mixing meat tenderizer like Adolf's into the dog's food each meal. It is supposed to have the same effect as For-Bid.
Accompany your dog outside each and every time, and teach and use a command such as "Leave It!" to get him to avoid stool.
Your neighbors will wonder what you are doing with this one: go outside and sprinkle an ample quantity of Tabasco-type sauce on each and every stool. The sauce has to be very hot, because some dogs enjoy the more mild hot sauces.
Spray a bitter apple, bitter orange or similar deterrent on each stool.
For dogs who will turn around and eat their own stool as soon as they are finished, or for those who eat others' stool as they are pooping, the best way unfortunately is to have your dog on leash and use the "leave it" command.

Get an additive from a pet store or a vet. Clear the problem right up.
