I guess the real question would be, can a computer with only 2.19GHz possibly run WSP2? (The minimum requirement is 233MHz - is that the same as 2.33GHz?) I'm guessing the reason why microsoft won't let me access the update for WSP2 is because my system doesn't meet the requirement, but is it at all possible for me to download it from somewhere else, and have it work just tolerably well?

I tried downloading from other websites, and opened the file after it downloaded, and it would extract or copy files, or whatever. But it hasn't updated my computer to WSP2, is there something else I have to do? Or is it just my computer not meeting the requirements?

Any comments at all would be appreciated, thanks for reading...

Yes, I'm running a legal copy of Windows. (It's a Dell Inspiron 1000 computer, btw. Don't get one. :P)

Thanks for all the help guys, I'm going to try something suggested --- but I have another question. >.< Since I've already downloaded from another website the WSP2, and extracted the folders from the application or whatever, would I have to find those and delete them before trying to download it again from a different website? (This time it's microsoft, thanks Hesse!)

Other details:
-I have AdAware for virus protection
-I'm having a hard time finding where those files that were extracted went to, even though I noted the path while it was extracting. >.<

Yes, your windows key might be one of those public ones that everybody uses.
You can still download SP2. Just search for SP2 for IT professionals, and you'll download a file which is an installer. Actually I'll look for a link for you....
Here it is:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

Additional info: AdAware is not a virus scan. It is almost a virus scan, but not quite.
Here's an antivirus soft: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/avg-anti-virus-free/lng/us/tpl/v5

I've never heared of uninstalation of SP2 from PC. It could probably be done, but it's a messy process. I cannot help you with that. My advice for you, and what I would also do in your situation is to burn my personal information on DVD and do a system recovery and reinstal Windows from the disks that came with your laptop.
Good luck

who says 2.2 CPU is bad ? the most that industry have right now is 3.4 which is hek lot expensive then 3.0 ..

and 233 reffers to your memory's working frequency with has nothing to do with cpu

and i wonder why you cant get the update from microsoft site ? there may possibly be 2 reasons .. 1 is that that's some network problem and 2 is that your system doesn't pass authentication (which means unauthorized license of windows).

If it says "authentication failed" then there's nothing i can help you with but an advice to go buy a licensed version of windows

if it's some network problem then keep trying .. basically it's better to reboot your computer before trying to run the update, and also it may take some 10-15 minutes on their web site when it says something like "gathering info" or "preparing for update" .. i don't remember what exactly the message is .. so just be patient

about what you've downloaded from another site .. i really never done that, but anyway i'd strongly recomend you having antivirus in place .. just in case ..

so, you said you've unpacked whatever you downloaded ? then go to the folder where it has unpacked, find the file like "setup.exe" or "setup.msi" and just run it .. it should start the install

good luck

233 MHz and 2.33 GHz are two different things...
2.33 GHz = 2330 MHz

If u are having problems downloading the file then order your free CD from the Microsoft Website.. i had ordered on online 2 years back and it reached here in Pakistan in about 20-25 days

A computer with the config of 2.19 GHZ can run WSP2. There mite be issue with the installed windows on your pc. It mite be currupt. It'll be ok once you cud refresh the windows by reinstalling and then instal WSP2.

233 MHz is not 2.33 GHz you know.Maybe your RAM or hard disk is not enough to install the WXPSP2.My computer is only 1.70 GHz but i can install the WXPSP2.So,it must be your RAM or hard disk is not enough to install the WXPSP2.
To reinstall windows, when you start your windows go to Setup and change the first boot drive to CD-ROM or DVD-ROM.Then,insert your windows installation cd.

your processor is way fast enough. 2.19 gigahertz is ten times faster than 233 megahertz. do you have enough hard drive space? are you running a legal copy of windows?
