I manage a Highly Respected Clothing Company, and was curious on peoples behavior after trying clothes on. Do you leave the unpurchased clothes in the dressing room, (if so neatly or a mess) do you hang them on the dressing room rack, or do you put them back where you got them?

FOOTNOTE: Also do you place items in random places in the grocery store as well?
THANK YOU!

Oh my gosh, I use to work in retail and if I got anything out of it, it was to put things back where I took them from. I appreciate the hell people go through with slobbish customers; I definitely try to do my part to make their job easier.

I always hang the clothes back on the hangers and take them to the "back to the floor" rack, if there is no rack, I hang them back up, where I got them. I also put clothes back on the hangers as I'm looking through the racks. I worked retail for many years, as a manager in childrens clothing, home decor and for Cracker Barrel Retail. It's hard enough day to day, trying to keep up with new merchandise, displays, cleaning, helping customers, etc. Having to pick up the messes people leave behind only make it harder and more frustrating.
Even in a grocery store, I'll go back or at least leave it with the cashier.

Dressing Rooms: I put things back on hangers (if they had hangers) and either hang them on the knob on the other side of the door for the attendant, or on the "Not for me" rack they usually have in dressing room areas. If I can't find the attendant, then I will just take it back myself. I loathe using a dressing room that someone has destroyed, it makes for a less-than-lovely atmosphere for trying on clothes.

Grocery Store: If I've changed my mind about something before I get to the line, I put it back where I've found it. If I change my mind in line, I will tell the cashier that I don't need that item, and thank them for looking after it. I can't stand it when you're in a grocery store and you see buggies just "abandoned" with a couple of food items in the bottom!

It depends on the type of clothing. If I'm trying on bras, I usually leave them in the dressing room because I'm young and shy about bra shopping still. Also, I tend to leave dresses in dressing rooms because I feel like I look to young to be trying on dresses for Homecoming and what not even though I'm definitely not. Other than that, I put the clothes back where I found them, give them to a salesperson, or put them on the dressing room rack.

I either hang them up in the dressing room or put them back where I found them. I think it's alright for someone to leave about one item in the dressing room, but if they have a lot more then they should hang them up.

Grocery Store Question: I usually place them back where I found them unless i'm in a hurry

When I try on clothes, I hang them up and give them to the attendant or return them to the rack. I always put grocery store items where they belong if I decide not to get them.

I put them back on their hangers and leave them in the dressing room usually. Sometimes I return an item to the rack where I got it.

I never leave clothes in the dressing room. I would either give them to the attendant or I take them back to where I got them from.

I also tend to replace things where I got it from in the grocery also.

That depends on the attitude of the person waiting on me. If I go into a store and say Hi to the salesperson and they say "What do you want ? or something else impolite, I'll leave the clothes in the dressing room. If they're nice, I make sure that I am too.
