My daughter had to pee but we were caught in the line-up at the drive thru. I couldn't exactly take her in and leave my car there, so I opened the door and helped her to tinkle on the side by a little bush there.

What do you do, when you're on the road with your girls?

I agree- you gotta do what you gotta do. Now, I believe there would be a proprietary age limit on the peeing on the side of the road thing (like 7), but you have to do what you have to to keep the pee out of your car. Most people who have children understand this, and will overlook the incident. I usually don't take a portable potty on short trips, but if it is going to be for more than an hour or so, I bring my 2 year-old's little potty chair. Either my 7 1/2 year old or the 2 year old can use it in a pinch on the side of the road. But as for the drive thru... I haven't yet encountered that one! There's a first for everything, right?!

I've had this happen. My daughter will be two on Christmas Eve and we're finally getting to a good point with her going potty. I give her every opportunity available and if it seems like it's been a while, I take her to the bathroom and make her get on the potty even if she says she doesn't have to. But, when it happened, I just pulled my car out of the drive-thru lane, parked, and took her in. I had already ordered, so I went to the counter, explained what had happened, and they just gave me my food inside and I paid there.
Other than that, I'd probably ask her to wait a few seconds and keep her occupied.

When I was little and we were traveling, my mom or dad would pull off the road and open the front and back door and I'd pee in between them. At Mc D's, I probably would have pulled into a parking area asap and take her inside. You know how SOME people are these days.

I agree when you gotta go you gotta go. Have you seen those little blow up potty things? You can line them with a plastic bag and you can literally go in the car. I don't know how big your girls are, but if they are smaller I think it might work. Sometimes little ones just can't hold it. I don't think you did anything wrong. In some cultures they just drop their pants and pee and poop in the gutter of the streets.

When I was a kid, having me pee outside was a LAST resort! It's ONLY appropriate when you're in the middle of nowhere, no bathroom in sight

You were in a line of cars and you made your daughter pee where everyone could see her. This is embarrassing no matter how old you are. Not to mention illegal--since this was a restaurant drive thru, you had her urinate on the restaurant's property and they could have taken legal action. You should, if this happens again, tell her to wait a few minutes, finish the drive thru, and take her inside!

I understand that perhaps you were unable to get out of the line (the drive-thru near us is that way, once you are in, you can't get out lol), but I think maybe you over-reacted to her need a bit.

I'm not faulting you, you did what you thought necessary I'm sure, but perhaps it was time to teach her a little thing called self-control lol. She could have waited a minute or two, I'm sure.

That used to happen to me when i was with my little brother. What I did was I bought a portable potty chair for him so that way he could go when he had to and all I had to do is pull over if I wasn't near a restroom he could use. in your case you can get a portable potty for her or bring a jar and tissues for her.

I take every opportunity to let her go before, we leave a place. Like before we leave home, where ever we are at, say the shoe store, I'll make sure she goes there before we leave, if we stop off somewhere else like the grocery store, I'll make sure she goes there too.

You should have had her hold it until you were through the line, then take her inside to go potty.
