Patience has nothing to do with it. What the two of you require is open and honest communication about your feelings. Tell her how this relationship with her ex bothers you and ask her to please put an end to it. If she really cares about you this will not be a problem, but if it is too much for her to handle I would wonder if she has really gotten over this guy.

Ask her simply why she wants to be friends with him still...were they friends for a long time previously to them dating? Why did they break up? The patience you should have you should be aware of within you---if something feels wrong--something probably is...wait until you feel you both have reached a mature plateau that you can discuss together the importance of him in her life. If it isn't serious yet, don't scare her away and make her feel like you are trying to cut off her other options...and keep your other options open as well. :)
