When I was in HS, I was very academic and would never have done drugs in a million years. Well, a million years came sooner than expected. Suprisingly, my sister got me started- on smoking pot... but, really, where's the harm in that? Well, when people say it's a gateway drug, they are correct. After about a year, a "friend" introduced me to cocaine. I was hooked immediately. I flushed an enormous amout of money, took out loans, began doing poorly in college, etc. Not too far down the road, I was introduced to ice (crystal meth), which I adored. I thought it brought me closer to my "friends," (due to three day hang out/talking sessions while high), and I liked that I was losing weight. Eventually I almost got fired from my PT job- I couldn't even work 20 hrs a week. And I could see I was spiraling out of control. So, I packed up, moved across the country and started again- but this time w/o drugs. I'm like a completely different person now, 300% better. I'm married, have a wonderful job, and actually love life again.

I know quitting can be the hardest thing you will ever do. And for a long time drugs are going to look really good to you. But if you can perservere and stay clean, you will eventually be able to turn your life around and stay away from drugs w/ no problem (you'll remember how bad things were, and how much better they are now...and you will not want them). It's very hard, but it can be done.

I wish you all the best. Stay strong...things will get easier. You have your whole life, don't throw it away.

Personally, I think that probably 91% of all kids will experiment with drugs. Some will just get sucked into the peer pressure but others will really enjoy running away from reality to a place that seems fun and carefree which is also known as buzzing, tripping or getting stoned. Whatever you want to call it, I think people who become addicted are either from a dis functional home or are confused about their direction in life. I know you have probably just been trying to find some happiness but it's caused you to create your own personal world of a downward spiral decent. Alcohol addictions are very similar as well. You can't hide from or cover up reality. You have to learn how to enjoy life without drugs. You can do it. Start by asking God to come into your life and guide you.

I'd have to admit that an overwhelming majority of my major not so pleasant experiences and problems (relationships, financial, legal and emotional) can most certainly be attributed to being as a result of my drug/alcohol usage. Lots of good times, but at what cost? Not worth it. I'm much happier without it. Good luck with that.. Stay in school. Just say"NO"...etc.

first congrats on becoming a recovering drug addict.

yes I did do some in my youth...I am 50 but I stopped them. I only did pot in my youth not the chemicals of today....they are very addicting.....so I count my self very Lucky that I was able to walk away from them with out trouble.
