Yes, the reason is that markets keep changing. You may not have to put much effort into it but it must be kept up. If you don't, you may find a competitor has under priced you and you are out business or he has upgrade his product and you haven't. There are so many variables it may be boggling unless you have a "Specialized" product or service that is very difficult to duplicate.

You always have to do target market research on products that are already launched. Many new products are produced each year because of the research from the first product and so forth. When you do advertising such as tv commercials you want to have a market study to see if the ad will be successful or not. The same with print. When I am ready to do a new ad for my own self in my business I ask about 20 different people what they think and what can I change. i never ask the same people. Different views are always the best.

Target Market?
If your product are Blue Jeans and your target market are teens than maybe more advertisement will help.

More research would not do much good.
