Specifically, looking for art that shows the Medieval peoples fascination with dead and decaying bodies. I need title and artist. I've been looking all over artlex.com wikipedia.com and artchive.com and artcylcopedia.com. Not finding good examples of decaying bodies!

I realize that it was mostly religous art (I just spent 3 hours going over websites and art books...) But my English is under the impression that decaying bodies were popular... and is offering extra credit (quite a hard class with little extra credit) for examples of death and decay.

So far I found some Simone Martini paintings that *almost* work.

where did you get the idea that artists depicted decaying bodies? much of the artwork at this time was religious art, as that was popular in the middle ages/medieval times.

ummm.... there are some depictions of the Black Plague from the 1300's (which is not the same as the 13th century- that would be the 1200's).

OK, I FOUND A WAY AROUND THIS!!! they were obsessed with the death of CHRIST!!!! there are TONS of depictions of Christ on the cross & he is often shown dead on the cross. that is the ONLY thing that makes sense... Christ & crucifixion scenes. go to the link below for what i feel is a good example of such art....

make sure his body appears limp & lifeless like this painting. there are tons more like this out there.

you had better get that extra credit now!
