If someone says you look like someone and then says well not really look like but favors them. What exactly does this mean then? And if the persons good looking is this a compliment?

This means that you may have some of their facial qualities. And that you don't LOOK like this person, but you will remind them of that person when they see you. And yes it is mostly a form of flattery (depending on who you favor...as long as it is not a "knuckle-dragger" AKA gorilla-face) LOL =P

It can mean that you look like someone else but more often it could be the way you act or carry yourself. I see a man every week when I'm out that favors someone I used to work with as far as the way he sits and similarity in his hairstyle and size but I looked at him closer the other day, and he doesn't actually look that much like the other guy as far as his actual face.

To favor someone, in the context of your question, means that you hold many of their physical attributes, .. and yes, if the person that you apparently 'favor' is attractive, then that is a huge compliment to you.

i think it means like take after, instead of saying you take after your mom i.e. looking simalar to her they say you favor them and if they are good looking of corse its a compliment.
