having lived with a dysfunctional family. i used what i experienced as a tool in not what to do in my life. and i can honestly say my life is greatly improved because of it. my world and enviorment is so much better, and different that i now find i have very little in common with my family. use your past as a tool to make you a better person. and remember that everything we do as a person has an effect on someone else.

What a question ????? Most certainly. Spend some time away from them, mind you most of the world is dysfunctional, it's all down to degrees and reading some of these questions and especially some of the answers, the levels of intelligence are very low. The more time spent with intelligent people the better and the better your life style. Mental stimulation and being around people who mentally stretch you make you a better brighter individual. And then you shall die anyway, sometimes there is just no winning eh ?

If you realize that you're family is dysfunctional, then you can realize that you don't want to be like them. Some people use dysfunctional families as an excuse to get away with things. If you know better, then you won't be socially challenged or whatever.

most american families are dysfunctional, psychiatrists say. Family life shapes how you interpret other peoples actions or what they say. Be willing to accept that people are aliens from another world that you want to understand, it gives you an open mind towards others.

A dysfunctional family can definitely affect how we act socially. I good way to compensate is to expose yourself to functional families and find role models within them whom you attempt to emulate.

absolutely. childhood experiences are usually your first relational experiences...which ultimately become a sort of template for futue relationships. I don't think it's easy to change how THEY act, but you can certainly change how YOU act in recognizing the things that you don't want to have and making efforts to change. It's not easy, but it can definitely happen. Sometimes a therapist can help one deal with such struggles...

It has changed the way I interact with people. I can be a bit kidish and sometimes a little shy. You just have to pick up examples outside of your family and try to emulate who you want to become.

It affects all of our relationships, the way we perceive the world, and how we respond. The way we change? Make a conscious effort and determination that we will change no matter what. It is up to the individual and how much they desire to make their lives better.
