My 4th grader has homework every night except weekends. I like it every day because it gets her in a good habit. She's ADHD so some nights take a lot longer than it should. If she concentrates it takes about 1/2 hour each night.

Depends on the teacher and the child. My 15 year old honor student never had homework until she was in high school. My 11 year old step-daughter had 1 - 2 hours of homework every night when she was in 4th grade. The 11 year old has ADD/ADHD and a slew of other behavior/emotional problems, so she wasn't adapting to the regular classroom as well.

Half an hour max. "There are just to many important things to do in the backyard to have me studying at the dinner table." That was my opinon when I was in the 4th grade.
