Actually seeing as younger drivers have more accidents, let's require that all teens and twenty somethings be retested every year!!

Without a doubt. Having been a long distance truck driver, I can tell you that I'd almost PAY for that law!! I also think that ALL states should require the very large motor homes be driven by a specially endorsed driver. Most drivers of motor homes seem to be retired, and I caution to guess that many of them never drove anything larger than a cadillac...
As our society ages rapidly, more and more seniors are on the streets, roads and highways. When I lived in NC, there was no public transportation in my city for anyone...no taxis or buses. There was a senior center that a few elderly people looked to for transportation, but many of the drivers there have no choice. It's the only way they're going to get to the grocery/pharmacy/doctor etc. My next door neighbor, a very well know local businessman, was 94 when he ran a stop sign and nearly killed a lady. This man was devastated...no one had ever told him he probably shiouldn't be driving...he is living with the image of the accident to this day. He surrendered his license on that day. Bravo!!
Sorry to ramble, but to answer your question, yes, I believe mandatory testing at a certain age should be required, but I also think that more public transportation is needed for the elderly. GREAT QUESTION!!!!!!

I'll assume you are young,,no offense. I might agree that testing should be a normal non offensive procedure, but it might never come to a vote as in Bill or law.
I just did this,,,from the link below. I know what i scored, and I'm 62 driving since I was 16. I offer this test, even to the youth,,,see how you score.
Sadly, the national average is 70%,,,perhaps every age group should be DMV tested annually???

Her in Calif I believe that after 70 years of age one has to take the written test and eye test. And if there is a problem may need to get it every year.. I really dont think that a driving test will do any good.

"reaching a certain age"? As a wise OLDER man once said, "the devil is in the details"; when is that "certain age", when does one become an elder? with retirement?, cashing in on dwindling social security? when one is hearing-impaired due to improper volume on their Ipod? If mandatory testing is a favored task for continued driving, then impose it upon all age groups at periodic intervals.

That would be discrimination, in my opinion.
The biggest problem with all drivers, is not the ability and skill to handle a motor vehicle. It's "ATTITUDE". Why do older drivers upset other drivers????? Because they are cautious..
sometimes too cautious, and therefore drive too slowly. Younger drivers are in too much of a hurry to get somewhere, and are "inconvenienced" by this....Result: Road rage and comments like "Get them off the road". One of the previous answerers had to drive on the grass to avoid hitting a driver who stopped ahead of him/her. Why? Driving too fast, or following too close, or not paying attention. If the driver ahead of you is having a heart attack, is it OK to run into him? I know many young, athletic people in their 30's and 40's that had heart attacks.
I have seen so many incidents, where seniors are blamed for accidents that they are not involved in...accidents caused by impatience of younger people. In case you are wondering, I'm not a Senior, and I'm not in favour of mandatory drivers tests. I am, however, in favour of regular physical examinations (for all ages) not just seniors....Remember, that you will all be seniors someday.

I agree that a test should be given. I hit an 80 year old the other day because she ran a stop sign. However, my grandmother is 80 and is a perfectly safe driver. On the other hand, my other grandmother, who is 84, really should not be on the road.

I think once you reach 65 you should have to retest because your reflexes have slowed and your eye sight is worse. Also if you get in an acident you have a better chance of being seriously injured due to weaker body and more brittle bones.

or at least have to take a brush up course, I hate it when people come to a dead stop at the end of the on ramps especially. Someone did this suddenly and i had to swerve and go thru the grass to avoid hitting them. It was an old person. Most all the time I see bad drivers, its older people.
