Natural peanut butter must be refrigerated after opening and will last 6 months this way, while other commericial kinds will last as long at room temperature.

I had a roommate that kept putting my Jiffy peanut butter in the fridge. You and she must have heard the same thing.

On a different note, according to wikipedia, peanut butter has a 1 year shelf life. I'm assuming that is unopened, opened I wouldn't recommend anything longer than 2-4 months. Refrigerated, it is still a year. I'd go un-fridged since it's easier to spread.

The Skippy peanut butter website says that Skippy has a 2 year shelf life. Go Skippy!

Hmm, I couldn't really find a definite answer on homemade peanut butter. Some sites said 1 day, some said a month...don't know, but I guess it depends on how the oil seperates.

As long as the lid is on the jar properly the peanut butter does not have to be refrigerated before or after opening and it will last for a long time.

You do not have to refrigerate peanut butter. It is not dairy and you can keep it for 3 months with out it tasting old. You will know when to throw it away. Usually it seperates.

Yeah, I never have put peanut butter in the fridge. I would say that when it starts to accumulate moisture, I would give it another week before I would trash it.

I don't refrigerate my peanut butter. When it's cold it gets a lot harder, and it makes it more difficult to spread. (and especially since I only eat Crunchy!!!)

Penut butter does not need to be refrigurated. I have penut butter that has been in my cubbord for a couple months now and is not bad. The onlything you may have to watch is that a cheep brand may seperate. that is not a big deal just stir it up and use . No need to refrigerate.
