Remove headlight switch knob. Remove trim at the bottom of upper portion of dash to reveal TORX screws holding dash trim panel on. (this is tricky, you will need to bend something, maybe a paper clip or the like, to fit behind those trim pieces and pull straight out - it will fight you) Remove TORX screws, then remove upper dash panel (you may need to disconnect electric 4x4 switch, if equipped), revealing gauge cluster. Remove TORX screws holding guage cluster - not the ones holding the lens. Remove entire gauge cluster and find bulbs on back - 1/4 turn will remove each bulb socket - change as req'd. Reassemble in reverse order.

Before you try to remove the panel, take a flashlight and look up under the dash above the steering column. You may be able to pull the lower dash panel (below the steering column) and reach up and change the bulbs.

If not, there are usually some screws that hold the bezel around the panel that need to come out, and after the lower panel is out there are screws under it that anchor the lower part of the bezel. Once the bezel is out you will see the screws that hold the panel in.

I haven't done a Bronco in several years, so I am "flying blind" on this one. Hope this info helps you. Good luck.

Remove the headlight switch knob by using a small pocket screw driver and push in on the tab and pull the knob off, using the same driver pry the two trim pieces out and using a 7 mm socket and or torx driver removet the 2 bolts. Pull the dash cover off, Remove the 4 screws on the cluster and if it is an auto then you will have to unhook the shifter indacator and pull the cluster out and unhook the 2 wiring connectors on the back of the cluster.

I had a smell once that smelled like a burning dump. Turned out that the battery was at the point of destroying itself. You might want to check your battery. The smoke you see might indicate that some wires having to do with the heater box might be shorting or melting. The smell might also have to do with something that is overheating near the air intakes.
