If you are talking about white raw fish, it would be sword fish you are eating.

It would have helped if you have described it and how it was cooked. Was it flaky? Dry? Oily? Thick Steak cut, fillet? The buttery flavor could have been what it was cooked in or just served with. Good thing it wasn't transparent, we call that Shashimi. Let me guess any way, Blk. Sea Bass, Cod or Orange Roughy with a Wine and Butter sauce. Halibut and Tuna are Steak cut and dense. Glad you enjoyed it, ask them next time.

Buttery Cod Florentine, thawed and drained
10 oz Spinach, frozen, thawed and drained
4 oz Mushrooms, fresh, chopped
1/2 cup Cheddar cheese, mild, shredded
1/3 cup Butter, unsalted
1 tsp Dill weed
1 tsp Nutmeg
1/2 tsp Hot sauce

Place cod in ungreased baking dish.
Layer with spinach, mushrooms and cheese.
Melt butter and add seasonings. Pour this on top of cheese.
Bake at 350 for around 30 minutes.
For a nice variation, sprinkle crumbled bacon on top before baking.

You had the Yellowtail Tuna Fish. I love it, especially yummy with soy sauce mixed with wasabi.

It's kind of hard to say but maybe it was a type of halibut or flounder. Here's a link to a site that might be able to help you narrow it down.
