I get good grades in school, but I see NO way how getting good grades means you are smart. I fail to see how doing work like a mindless drone make you intelligent? In my opinion that makes you someone who cant think for themselves, therefore being less intelligent than someone who doesent want to do what they're forced. Do you agree? And if not, please explain and be open-minded.

Studying is meant for you to memorize useless details that you will never use. Why else would you NOT remember 90% of the information you learn in school? Because your brain doesent consider it useful, therefore it is useless information.

Well it really depends on what your definition of smart is. Some people think it's knowing common sense or just intelligent. Knowing alot of stuff makes you intelligent and smart....in school you need to know alot of stuff.

That's definately a different way to look at things. hhmm...To me, it sounds like creativity. People who don't need a system or to be in a box per se, are very creative. Intelligence has nothing to do with it really. There are people that are very good at every subject but can't think for themselves which is what you said and I think its true, but there are people who can do both. It just depends on how creative they are. Actually, in psychology, that is what we are currently discussing. There have been many definitions of intelligence. Some people from the past say there is only one way to be intelligent, and others said there are many different types of intellience. Like mathematical reasoning, musical intelligence, verbal intelligence, and other types. It has been debated ever since. Actually, tomorrow we are going to go over it more so I think its cool that I came across your question!!

Smart people do well in school ...is said to the effect that smart people do not have to try very hard to get good grades.....Grades being the object of desire in the educational arena. Is good grades an indicator of how smart you are ? ...NO. However it is the standard that is accepted by this society as a record of proof that you are competent in certain areas. Without this record of competency ...virtually no one will give you a chance to prove your intelligence in the adult world. You've got to play the game by the structure in which it was created if you want to win.

"working as a mindless drone" is not what you are doing if you're willing to learn. Learning opens up so much more for you than just trying to do it yourself. No one can force you to learn, but it sure will help in the long-run when you can avoid big mistakes because of what someone else knows and has already learned.

Smart people don't have to work like mindless drones, they get the essence more easily and then they are out of there and having fun. The smart people are usually creative which means they not only think for themselves, they have figured out how to apply info relevant to their ambitions. Sorry it has been so rough for you. Perhaps if you tried some relation techniques, it might get easier.

it is not always a good indicator..especially if the material is busy work and not a real test of competence. However I am in medical school and I don't think a dummy could make it one day in here nomatter how hard he worked. There are certain limits for people with lower intelligence and grades can be one of them but not necessarily.

Well, once you get a job, if it's a good job, you will need all the information you get from school to do your job well. So that means if you get good grades you know the stuff you learned in school really well. And then, if you do your job well and you have a really hard job, then you must be smart. Well, I think you gget the picture...right? If not, mail me at greatestgrace28@yahoo.com

I've heard something similar. I've been told that students that barely get by in high school (like C students), are more likely to finish college. I'm one of those people :p

Intelligent people can do well in school, but they won't do well if they are very lazy.
