Runts have to be bottle fed by you every 3 - 4 hrs. if they are not strong enough to nurse mom on their own. It would not hurt if you supplemented her food with Espelac (spelling) a puppy milk formula and see if that helps her. Is she able to nurse at all? Is mom ignoring her? Are the other pups pushing her out of the way so she can't nurse?
Good luck.

At 4 weeks she should be out of the woods.
And you should start weaning them

Some years ago a friend's wife gave him a runt pup for his birthday. The puppy was "so bad" that he did all but sue the breeder trying to get them to take the pup back.
That runt grew up to be "72,75 NAFC- 71,73,74 CNFC River Oaks Corky" History's only 5 time national champion

yes its not getting the milk it should.take the mother away from the puppys three times a day and put down so canned puppy food for them to eat.they will make a mess but the mother will clean them up.this will no only give they runt some food but will fill up the litter mates so there is more milk for it. also see nurture at www.getcni.com 800-992-9741

Runts sometimes are that way because they are not getting what they need from mom as the other puppies are getting to the feeding first, etc.

I suggest you contact your vet. He may suggest a momma's milk suppliment to help your runt puppy along nutritionally. This is not entirely unusual, but should be at least checked out with your vet.

That is why it is called the runt, but seriously you probably need to make sure that the puppy is getting enough food, even if you have to hand feed it. This will ensure that the poor thing is getting enough food. You could take it to the vet to ensure that everything else is okay.

i picked the runt out aof a litter once and he grew to be the biggest and prettiest of them all..i got the pick of the litter. Try some baby food to supplement nutrients for the runt. and keep an eye out for his blood sugar level. with him being so small and weak it is easy for his blood sugar to drop, causing inactivity. honey or something like that to up him.

maybe you should be giving this puppy some additional feedings with puppy formula. He may not be able to get enough food due to his small size and weakness and may grow even weaker if he does not start getting the proper amount of food. Call your vet and ask if you should do this and how often.

YOU SHOULD BE ASKING A VETERINARIAN !!! Take the poor little guy to the veterinarian so you get the correct answer. Pay the money. You will be happier for it. Don't ask medical advice
from a bunch of circus clowns that are on Yahoo answers just
here for fun. You will be happier for it and so will your little dog.
