I recently opened up a doorway into a bigger opening for no door, just a walkthrough. I will have trim around this opening, however, I need to first form the plaster back to the edge. How would I go about this and if anyone finds good resources, please post. I don't know if I should form with compound because of such a large fill, but any ideas would be great. Thanks!

If you are talking about the edge of the wall than you need corner bead which is nailed or screwed to the wall stud and you mud over it 3 to 4 progressively larger coats

It sounds like you need to fill it with sheetrock, and tape and mud the joint between the old wall and the new. Then sand, and do the mud again with a large putty knife or trowel to fill in any dips. If you aren't that handy and really want it to look good surely someone you know could show you or look on DIY under home improvement or whatever category you think it will be under. If you try to do a large space with the compound it will look cheap and eventually fall out when it dries. Compound is just to hold things together not to make walls out of. Good luck.

go to the depot and get some corner bead its metal and then use that with a good light drywall compound to form the edges and if the gaps more than the edge fill the holes with joint compound spread on fiberglass self sticking tape
