I am under 21, and in my state, I know it's illegal for me to buy wine, to sell wine, and consume it other than for religious purposes, but can I make it? I was sent an explanation on how it is made, and told that it may be a cool science experiment, but I was wondering if it was legal...

Yes, it is illegal:

From http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/10apr20061500/edocket.access.gpo.gov/cfr_2006/aprqtr/27cfr24.75.htm (check "C" at the bottom)

"Sec. 24.75 Wine for personal or family use.

(a) General. Any adult may, without payment of tax, produce wine for personal or family use and not for sale.
(b) Quantity. The aggregate amount of wine that may be produced exempt from tax with respect to any household may not exceed:

(1) 200 gallons per calendar year for a household in which two or more adults reside, or
(2) 100 gallons per calendar year if there is only one adult
residing in the household.
(c) Definition of an adult. For the purposes of this section, an adult is any individual who is 18 years of age or older. However, if the locality in which the household is located has established by law a greater minimum age at which wine may be sold to individuals, the term ``adult'' will mean an individual who has attained that age."

You Answered your own question, thats like asking if it is legal to make your own drugs...dee..de..dee, if you want to do it as a science project then yes under adult supervision...be careful how you transport it because alcohol is alcohol, homemade or not...open container laws would apply if you were pulled over by the cops for something....making it falls under the title "Minor in possession", and depending on the language of the laws in that state, sometimes they are dated back to prohibition dates, i.e. ancient laws never changed or removed, possessing over a certain amount of home distilled spirits can be illegal as well...so dont go trying to make it at home and sell it to the kids in the neighborhood like some back woods moonshiner...cause then it would be another criminal act as well...remember, it,s not where its made, its what is made...if you make cocaine at home does it make it any less illegal?? get it ...?! same concept.

Usually if it is illegal for you to do those other things then it is also illegal for you to possess wine. However, the lawmakers may have overlooked this detail. In my state it was illegal for many years for minors to purchase cigarettes, but there wasn't any law on the books making it illegal for them to possess or use them. Someone finally figured that out and changed the law to include this.

How can it be illegal to make wine? If you're not drinking it, and you're not purchasing it. Sounds like a loophole to me.

If that was true, then every 16 yo kid who works on a vineyard during summer break should be arrested.

I somewhat were to church homes that use authentic wine. it isn't unlawful, because it is a non secular accurate. truly some church homes do notwithstanding use grape juice, because it is more low priced and it is representative of the wine (it is surprisingly sufficient representative of Christ's blood)... in basic terms as some church homes do no longer use authentic bread, yet those little wafers.. besides, alcohol isn't solid for you. we do no longer ought to drink it anymore because it is secure to drink the water. notwithstanding some church homes nevertheless sense it necessary to apply authentic wine and bread and there is no longer something unlawful or incorrect with that. they are of their eyes being extra observant.

nothing says it is against the law so do it all you want, but you are not allowed to possess it, so the law could get you there. So why not someone who is old enough to drink alcohol help you with the experiment.
