Sure. Just be professional. Tell the real reason without acting like a jerk. You can tell them "Thank you for the offer.I'm flattered. however I had an offer that I can't resist due to financial reasons. But I would have preferred to work in your company under different circumstances. Because I belive in what you do, I do have a trust in your company, etc. I'll be definetely following for the future opportunities in the mean time I'll keep improving my self for sure. "

I've encountered this twice, with the same company. Explain that at the time you don't think the job is right for you. Have something to back it up though, like the distance is too much or something for you at the time but you may very well be interested in applying again in the future. Thank them a ton for offereing the job and even then send a thank note.

You could tell the perspective employer that their company and the open position sounds like a very interesting one but that you received another offer that aligns with you goals more closely.

Absolutely!! Tell them that, although you are flattered by their offer and you think they'd be a great company to work for, you're career is heading in a different direction right now and you hope they would still be interested in you if that ever changes.

Yes.....Thank you for your offer of employment. At this time I have chosen to accept an alternate offer of employment. Perhaps we can be of mutual benefit to each other in the future.

Thank you again for your consideration and offer in the matter of
xyz position with your company.

Sincerely ,

your name

Tell them you have obliged yourself elsewhere. (which is a legitimate answer as you are obliged to yourself to make good choices) tell them that you are honored to have been given the offer and ask them to keep you in mind in the future.

Just be honest, tactful, and professional. It's not what you need right now, but thank them for considering you. You are wise to NEVER burn bridges.
