What an excellent question. The only reason I can imagine is that they enjoy the idea of gift exchanges. It is quite a hypocritical notion, don't you think?

WHY do CHRISTIANS celebrate Christmas?

One - Christ wasn't born in December (It's Pagan's Winter Worship)
Two - What's a Tree have to with Christ's B-Day? (It's Pagan, by the way)
Three - Santa Claus? Where does he fit in?

We atheists celebrate because it's 3 days off from work, it's turkey dinner with friends and family and it's Charlie Brown Christmas, man!

Why can't atheist celebrate christmas? It's the time of the year to be with the family and buy gifts for each other. Why do you insist it's your holiday.

Cause it's fun. I'm not exactly an atheist, but I'm not a Christian either. I like Christmas because I associate it with a lot of happy memories from my childhood, and because I get to spend time with the people I love.

Christmas, Easter, Halloween were all pagan holidays, Why do Christians celebrate them? It's an excuse to party and give gifts.

Most Chrisitian people celebrate Christmas because it's a nice fun tradition, not because of it's religious value or anything!
Atheists celebrate it because it's a fun nice tradition as well!

First it is a government mandated holiday....so much for that separation of church and state. And I'm all for holidays.

Mostly it is tradition, it is a time to spend with family and friends, enjoy food, drink and company. Exchanging of gifts etc.

Personally I don't really "celebrate" it that much....I'm a bit more of a Scrooge bah humbug type.

Tradition. I just like Christmas even though I think the reason is bunk.

It is mostly secular in the US anyhow. Most of the rest of it is pagan. I am not offended by religion, I just disagree with it. I don't care to wipe it out.

Because I like presents, good food, pretty lights, presents, honoring the circle of the year, drinking wine and egg nog, presents, spending the day with my sister's family, presents, remembering my mother and how much she loved Christmas, lighting my yule log, presents, seeing my kids full of wide eyed wonder, dressing in nice clothes, presents, giving lots of toys to the Toys for Tots campaign, smooching my beloved under the mistletoe and presents.

Because some Christians have made christmas more entertaining than holy. And entertainment attracts all people.
