First off thank all of you for your thoughts. Sadie is like my baby girl and reading all of your answers, just has me in tears. I have explained to my son the situation and let him have time with Sadie before he went to bed. This is just killing me....

I just wanted to say thank you all...

That other person is just an idiot. I am sorry for what you are going through. It is great you let your son in on it and not suprised him with the "sadie ran away" story. When the time is right please consider rescuing a dog and explaining to your son that the loss of sadie allowed you to save another. We did this when our Great Dane Bruce died and we rescued another Dane, Baxter. It makes a huge difference, not a replacement, but the ability to go forward and make the world better for another.

I'm so sad for you and your son! Don't worry about what johnasks said.......he's the "one in every crowd" if you know what I mean...hope he never reproduces. I'm glad you chose to be honest with your son, hard as it is. It is important for children to have an understanding of death when it happens. I hope you can feel comfort in knowing that you gave Sadie a wonderful home and a lot of love. She had a happy life while she was here. God bless!!

I am really sorry about your dog. I have a Siberian Husky named Sadie, so I really feel for you. I don't know if there is any good way to prepare a child for loosing a dog. But maybe letting him be involved in the burial would help him. Like letting him pick the spot and make her a little cross with her name on it. Then when he is ready let him pick out a new puppy.

Just to mention, I have a new litter of puppies, so if you happen to live in north Texas, and want to see them and see if he might like one of these, let me know.
