thier tails are what keep them balanced so when they jump or fall they use thier tails to rotate themselves around in the air before landing on the ground

Because they have 4 legs.... a 3 legged cat falls on 3 legs, it's the law of nature whatever it is natural for them to do they do it. For instance people walk on 2 feet so we naturally land on 2 feet if we jump.
