You can discuss bonuses at the MEPS station. Recruiters don't give u the job choice, just info on what jobs are out there, and which is in need of people. The people at the MEPS will give you a choice based on your ASVAB score. If any bonuses are offered, make sure to get them in writing. Also you should ask about the Navy College fund. Navy college fund is separate from G.I. bill. don't let them tell u it's the same. In general, you only receive any bonus upon successful completion of "A" school after basic training. There are some offers for sign on bonus, but that's usually for someone joining without a guaranteed job, very risky to do this.

You need to speak with a recruiter. Bonuses aren't automatic just because you enlist. And it's entirely possible that the Navy is not giving out ANY enlistment bonuses right now. Only a recruiter will know for sure.

Enlistment bonuses differ from job to job, to get an exact answer to that question, you have to know which job you are looking into and how long you are willing to sign on for.

On a different note (here's where I go off on a tangent)... know that "aviation" is a group of jobs (for example... hydraulics, crew chief, engines, etc) not just one job. One more thing, keep in mind that your recruiter's job is to get a certain number of people in the Navy each month. They might have your interests in mind but they also have a quota to meet so sometimes they have a tendency to put their needs above yours. Don't let them act like they can't get the job you want. You might have to wait for a school starting date to open up but they can guarantee you a job. One last thing... visit your Air Force recruiter and ask them the same questions you ask the Navy guy/ gal. If you are seriously considering enlisting you should research ALL your options. I have been in the Air Force since 1997, I work on airplanes and went to Pensacola NAS (which is the Navy aviation school is located) and know a bit about this subject so feel free to contact me.

Most of your more lucrative bonus' in the Navy come from re-enlistment, not enlistment. However, there are some rates that offer some sort of enlistment bonus. As mentioned above it would be best to talk to the recruiter, however, here's some links for you covering some of the rates and monetary amounts:

You really need to talk to a recruiter. The navy enlistment bonus system is very complicated.

Why do you need a signing bonus to serve your country. I'm a Marine Corps recruiter and I will never offer a bonus to any applicant. The only thing I will offer them is the challenge of their lifetime. If they ask for money I send them to the Army or Navy. I don't want anyone in combat with me who joined only because they received a bonus to sign up.

There are no more enlisted bonuses for those in their first tour. The bonuses for subsequent tours are now rare.
