I'll give you the best way to stop a cat from going outside, put it in a box, then take it for a ride in the car. You'll need to do this quite often, after a while it won't want to go out anymore. If that doesn't work, put a dog outside the door.

First if you wanted an indoor cat you should have never let him be an outside cat... just being honest.
My cat (a rescue) had been an outdoor can and I wanted her as an indoor I went though 4 months of constant meowing before she was contend to stay inside. You may want to keep a window open if that is an option, I find letting my can see and smell the outside helped with breaking her of the habit. If you have a in-closed porch or sun room it would be a great place for the cat to explore.

Once cats get accustomed to the outdoors they will beg and beg and it is too hard to keep them in. That is why when people get a cat they decide: INDOOR CAT OR OUTDOOR CAT.
Both my cats have been indoors because we have lots of coyotes here and a cat is not safe. I would be crushed if she never came home one day. So I keep her indoors for her safety and for my peice of mind.
Also when I adopted her from WARF they made me sign a contract that said I would keep her in.
Cats have a natural instinct to hunt and have freedom. Once they get this freedom they feel it is due them. If you get them young and they live only indoors this area becomes their hunting grounds (mice, flys, bees anything that gets in). You are going to have an awful time now. If you let him still go out he can survive in the cold as long as you are not in an area of extremes or heavy snow.
Sorry but you cat will no longer be content inside.

If he is not already fixed then you should have him fixed. This is hard to do but you have to try to ignore him. That is what I have to do with my cat sometimes when he wants to go out. You could also try to play with him. This helpes with my cat when he wants to go outside in the winter time.

In all honesty, you need to get the "Cat Sitter Video". I let my little girl outside (on a leash for her safety) in the summer, and when winter comes I'm in the same situation as yourself. I put that video in the VCR (shows how old school I am) and put the tape on auto-repeat. It plays all day, and she sits there and watches it for hours on end. It satisfies their need for watching birdies and mousies and all that stuff... within the safety of their mom or dad's house.

Good luck!

Kitties like to "do their business" outside. As it gets colder, you might find that he goes out for 10 minutes and wants to come back in.

Get him fixed if he isn't already, And try your best to ignore him eventually he will stop. That is the committment you get into once you start letting them out good luck to you and be patient.

try getting him some toys. so he won't be as bored stuck inside. maybe he has a secrete friend he goes too see while he is exploring. you might look into getting another cat or kitten?

Don't worry about him. when he feels it is too cold he won't want to go outside. As a matter of fact he will fight you to put him out if he doesn't want to go.

First off has he been fixed? If not you might want to have this done. He shouldn't want to go out as much after that has been done.
