Whats so impressive about it....seriously, ever thought about that? You assume God is an insecure freak who needs constant ego stroking and loves to hear people beg.

We must agree on this...there is no way hes impressed with a man bending over 5 times a day, planting his face in the rear end of another man to the mindless beat of the "islamic call to prayer". No frickin way he digs that...

You are right.

Any God worth worshiping would not actually want to be worshiped.

Young children are asked to religiously obey the orders of their parents, but parents who actually care about their children usually want them to grow up and think through the consequences of their actions instead of blindly following orders all their life.

Wouldn't a just and benevolent God want the same for humans?

Yes, just about every evening I go to the altar in the livingroom, start the water fountain, light the candles, light a couple sticks of incense, turn out all other lights, and sit on the pillow. I tap the drum and shake a rattle, read a passage from my book of Earth prayers, and meditate for at least 15 minutes on the days happenings. Brings everything into focus and a more peaceful sleep. Tried to do all this at different times, but there seemed to be more distractions. When I was really into Wicca, I called quarters, diety, and did most of what is considered a ritual. It didn't give me the peace I sought. Decided to simplify, and now it works.

If god really existed , people would already know individually apart from any teachings or religions on how to connect with
him ,praying 5 times a day or ten times won`t help you believe in god ,it is a meaningless practice ,people pray just so that god would help them through life and give them a place in heaven
,or so that other people can trust, respect or be heard .like other 3rd world countries the religious person is always in control in many different situations . most people are just scared of what they call hell or punishment from god ,it`s not something they do for free! so many people find god and please him in so many different ways than just prayer or rituals. Muslims on the other hand find that the more you pray and follow the Koran the more god loves you .no matter that person think he has faith that he is going to enter heaven .
there is nothing true about it ,after the prayers you go back and f&^$ up again and ask for forgivness .
it is mindless after all i think.
there are so many things one can do to be good and pure .

If God exists, anything is possible. And as far as your perspective on daily prayer goes, maybe you're right. Maybe God isn't an insecure freak who needs that. But maybe it is US who need prayer instead. Maybe it's a daily reality check that keeps us humble and things in perspective. Don't get so caught up in the nuances of the various religions. Follow your heart, and when in doubt take care of others. Selfish thoughts and actions will eat away at you. Good luck with your life.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 states:

Rejoice always.
Pray without ceasing.
In all circumstances give thanks,
for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.

We are taught to pray constantly.

WWJD? What would Jesus do? Jesus was a devout Jew and would have prayed regular ritual prayers during Jewish services. Jesus even prayed the first line of the 22nd Psalm while he was nailed on the cross: My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?

Ritual prayer may be mindless for a few but it is mindful for most.

Extemporaneous prayer works well in private but a known prayer recited by hundreds mindfully (not mindlessly) is a powerful thing.

The purpose of prayer is not to impress God. Nothing we can do can impress God.

Prayer is the elevation of the mind and heart to God:
+ In praise of his glory
+ In petition for some desired good
+ In thanksgiving for a good received
+ In intercession for others before God

With love in Christ.

Maybe God isn't some old man in the sky, but rather some kind of energy we all share. Maybe we're God, the sum total of us, all life and energy in the universe? Maybe prayer is just a way to tap into that little part of God in all of us.

Besides, I think bacteria do worship us in their own way, and I'm impressed. Did you know there are 10 times as many bacterial cells in and on our bodies than human cells? We are the source for their continued existence. And guess what? We wouldn't exist either if it weren't for them. To me, that's impressive.

It is not the mindlessness of the prayer, but the self-hypnotic effect to release the mind so that it can receive God in the purity of silence.

God must think the revivalists are nuts, with all the racket they make, only a dull, repetitive action or thought (or word) can free the mind and make it available to God for what He wants us to know. God does not talk. He does not have to. But He can make His point and solve many of our frustrations without words.

My step-dad had a litany of mindless chores for us to do. Some of them were about on the level of move this pile of rocks here today and tomorrow we can move it back. I suppose if I had made a stab at doing his list of mindless rote-work, he would have been impressed, but then I'd have ended up living at home for several additional years, which I guess in this analogy is sort of like having the gates of heaven remain open, but I always kind of found the freedom of having moved out more like heaven than hell so . . . .

Oh I'm sorry. Did you ask a question?

To start with, I won't (and I recommend no one should) respond to the question the way question itself has been phrased. What would be the difference between a muslim and non-muslim, if a muslim uses bad and abusive language? A muslim is ever fearful of Allah, for he knows that he would be held answerable for each and everything.

God is not in need of our prayers.

But because He is merciful, He has prescribed a way that would keep us from treading the footsteps of Satan and lead us to eternal happiness and success. The five daily prayers help Muslims avoid major sins altogether, they instill shame, awe and fear of God, because a Muslim expresses his dependency on God in the prayer. This helps a muslim in all kinds of circumstances, whether he is happy or a calamity strikes him, he turns back to God, and only asks from God Alone.

Five daily prayers are obligatory upon every muslim in their prescribed times. A muslim who observes five daily prayers can easily save himself from arrogance, lust, jealousy and all other evils of the soul. Obviously by praying to God alone he/she straight away avoids the biggest sin, that is, to associate partners with God.

The most recommended way of praying is together in congregation. When muslims get together five times a day, they can share their problems and thus help each other out.

There are many other benefits of prayer, but the most important ones have been mentioned above.

Its important to note that God doesn't need our prayers. If he had that need, angels would have been enough. But God created us to make us go through trials and challenges in life, times of happiness and sadness, both, and see who among men are those who turn to Him always, no matter whatever there state be.

On what basis do you judge that the daily prayer of godly people is "mindless"?
