Ok ive been wondering for about 2 weeks now what it means when a cop stops me and asks for my license and registration. The more accuate part of what i want to know is what the regisration part is. I know the license is my driver license, but what is the other part mean and for?

I came here looking for the same answer, because in Minnesota (where I live) they don t ask for registration. Cars have to be re-registered every year, and we get a sticker that goes on the license plate ("license plate tabs" or just "tabs") to indicate we re up to date. Cops here don t ask for registration, because it s literally right there. Instead, they ask for "license and proof of insurance" since it s illegal here to drive without car insurance.

He is asking for the registration for the car. You get a copy of this when you get the license plates for your car. It should be kept in the glove box, along with your proof of car insurance.

Your registration certificate. That's the piece of paper the DMV gave you along with your tags. It's proof that your car is properly registered and is displaying the proper tags.

Registration is a document, a peace of paper that says who owns the car and if you have paid for the right to drive it.
You get it at the DMV.

usually it means you are getting a ticket. they ask for the registration of the car so they can check to make sure that its not been stolen and that you have current tags on it.

This is nor rocket science. Mainly, he wants to see a printed copy of the registration every car SHOULD have in it. That way, he can verify that you didn't steal someone Else's sticker and place it on YOUR car's plate.
Also, he wants to see if YOUR name is on the registration.

I think the registration is for your car to make sure that its yours and you're not a car thief.
