How many skid marks stop at the usually flattened cable gaurdrail?

The cables and stanchions are designed to deflect the momentum of a car back onto the road. The stanchions may break off, but the tension in the cable eventually stops the lateral momentum. That way, you don't have a sudden deceleration, but rather a softer slowing of the car...much easier on the passengers in the car.

They are not designed to stop you but rather slow you down for the impact! If they were made to stop you folks would have broken necks or be missling out through the windshield! The cables are very strong but the post are designed to fold.

I agree with you 100%, though it might slow you down a bit.
All in all, I think it's a stupid waste of money. However, that is
sour grapes on my part because I wouldn't mind having the
contract to do the work.
