Apparently we don't have many Methodists among us. FYI, John Wesley was an 18th-century Anglican clergyman and one of the founders of the Methodist church. (See wikipedia.com)

Man, oh man! And all along I thought it was plate tectonics causing those things. You learn something new every day, don''t you?

I dont see how "sin" which is a purely human idea can cause tectonic plates to move.... it doesnt make sense. In any case, sin is a human created concept ONLY. Before humans there were earthquakes which formed the landscape of this planet, so how could sin be the cause of all earthquakes when sin didnt exist until humans came about? I think this John Wesley's logic is flawed... and it reminds be of how ancient civilisations created mythical creatures etc to explain natural phenomenon that they couldnt understand at the time. I think this man is sadly lacking in scientific knowledge to make such a statement...

More importantly, for those who agree that sin is the 'true cause' of all earthquakes, why do we not have earthquakes in some places? Are they sin-free? And is the stregnth of the earthquake directly proportional to the sinfulness of the regional residents? Does that make Hollister, California the earthquake AND sin capital of the world?

The Earth Trembles under the Weight of the Sin-----or something like that.
We Affect the Earth, the Stars everything up to the Throne Room of GOD---it is in the Bible.
Adam messed up Everything, all the Way to the Throne Room.
Something about Creation Groaning Too, Waiting for Redemption.
Some People Believe that the Earth is Alive.
I haven't said it isn't, just haven't Expounded on the Subject yet. (note to Self: when I use One Dollar Words like "expound" they might think I'm really Educated. Oh well, to Each his Own,hahahaha, I haven't lied, but they will never know just how Stupid I am, hahahaha---

Earthquakes occur for one of two reasons;
(1) Natural phenomenon of shifting techtonic plates.
(2) God's judgment on stuborn rebelous sinful people.

Which is which depends on the situation.

Earthquakes are not caused by sin - which is pure silliness on the part of John Wesley if he actually said that. It could be said that "some" earthquakes happen as a judgment against sin - but not by the power of sin.

For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
Romans 8:22,23

All creation is out of sorts because of sin. The animals all used to be vegetarian. Thorns and briars were not part of the original creation. Many even believe that the tilt of the earth that brings us our seasonal changes happened during the flood. In tornado and hurricane, Satan as lord of the air, brings disaster on humans. Even the earthquake is a result of sin, perhaps not a specific sin, but of sin in general.

All creation groans as they await the second coming of Christ when corruptible will put on incorruptible and man will resume his role and have dominion over the earth. Only then will the earth be a peace, when sin is no more.

I have no idea who John Wesley is, but I STRONGLY disagree with his remarks.
If this is symptomatic of his intelligence, the man is a complete fool

Think I Disagree. Not all earthquakes produce bad results. I would agree that all death and hardship is. The one where God revealed Himself to Elijah?
