My mom had this problem a few years ago. Turns out that her parathyroid wasn't working properly. 2 scans later & one of her parathyroid's had dropped onto her heart way back during conception. The doctor said this is a rare occurrence. The second scan was done the morning of her surgery to do a parathyroid removal. As she was coming out of the MRI, the female tech saw that it was sitting on her heart. The surgery was changed immediately & we had to wait almost an additional hour to get started with anesthesia. She spent 24 hours in ICU & 3 additional days in the hospital before coming home. She has a "railroad track" scar from her neck to the middle of her chest where the incision was made & the staples put in.

What started this whole process was routine bloodwork at the lab. The results came back with high calcium in her bloodstream. The malfunctioning parathyroid was spilling calcium into her system, causing the levels to be outrageously high. She now takes a daily calcium suppliment & a thyroid medication too.

I don't mean to scare you. I just want you to make sure to ask your doctor to check EVERYTHING out.

High blood calcium levels can be caused by over active perithyroid glands. High calcium should be treated by an endricronologist.
