In a sense, its a good idea, but in another sense, unless they are trained to handle the weapons in situations that arise, it could be dangerous. and remember, teachers are humans too and what if they decide to snap someday?

I think it's great that they wanna protect the students but I find it very wrong at the same time. "in case anything goes wrong" might mean a conflict caused by a human being, most likely a student. And the thought of a student getting stabbed, cut, shot, ect by a teacher isn't my idea of school being a "safe place." I think that if something arises where teachers and principals are considering carrying weapons, then it's time to get the police involved.

Teachers and principals shouldn't be responsible for carrying firearms. What kind of environment would that create for students? I know I'd be really stressed knowing that all my teachers are armed! I think it would also encourage something going wrong - I think some students would be tempted to test an armed teacher or principal. It's just not a good idea - the point around school safety is to keep weapons out, not bring them in.

Because kids are bringing weapons into the schools at an alarming rate, the teachers should be able to protect themselves. On the flip side of that, I just wonder what will happen when we witness the first occurance of a teacher shooting a student during class.

"Johnny, did you do your homework?"
"F-You Mr. Smith!"
"Now Johnny, thats not nice"
"Oh yeah, Mr. Smith? I got something 'nice' for you!"

Then the teacher makes a split second decision to pull out his weapon and discharge it in a room full of school children.

Well, I guess To me it is 50%-50%. You should have a gun for protection bcuz of kids nowadayz and bcuz of the robbers, murders, ect. but on the other hand there could be some crazy teachers that do homicide and stuff like that. For example: about 4 years ago at my old skool a teacher brought a gun to skool and shot herself and she blamed it on a student that she didnt like!! Crazy huh? So yea im 50-50

Well, I think that teachers shouldn't have weapons. With so much homocides now, we don't need any more "crazy" teachers running around with weapons all the time. If you're asking this for yourself, then it's ok...don't use your brother as an excuse...

It's a great idea! Finally give people a fighting chance! When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns!

I forget who said this but it rings true whenever you put it to the test. "an armed society is a polite society".
