No stale bread will not make you sick even if it is moldy, not that i recommend eating moldy bread. Chop it up and make stuffing or grind it up and make meatballs or the breading for chicken cutlets. Its actually very useful. Or you could just cut off the edges and make a sandwich with the not stale part.

No you can't get sick from stale bread. To soften it up, put a bit of water on the stale part and put it in the microwave for about 10 seconds.
However if the bread is moldy, you can get sick from it.

you can use stale bread with no problems as long as you dont see any mold on it, stale bread make the best croutons -- as well as french toast besides using them in recipies

If you ate a lot of it, you would probably get sick, but one piece is not going to kill you. I have had a piece of moldy bread before and did not have one problem.
