All children get themselves mixed up with their numbers.... My daughter is 5 and she'll go through to twenty missing out several of them and getting the words wrong, like eleventeen, twelveteen.... But that's part of learning.... Correct them once they've made the mistake or ask them have you missed out a number....

Always encourage him and use to your advantage something he likes.... I see you mentioned Nascar....

My son used to like Thomas the Tank engine and we used that for his numbers and colours etc... Maybe use Nascars for him to count... Another thing to make it fun use coloured sticks, get him to place them on the table in different groups and ask him to count them.... Start him off slowly, 2 groups of 5's then try 2 groups of 10, always praise him to boost his confidence....

Also tell him if he gets to 50 then you'll give him a treat or something.... Make a chart and set him a goal, make it something you know he likes doing, or something to motivate him....

No child is stupid, everyone has a different level of learning... Try not to push him too hard, making learning fun makes it easier for them.... Another thing is a computer, various websites with preschool games to help them read, write and numbers.... This makes it fun for them and good hand eye coordination....

Aslo do a square with the numbers 1 - 50 in different colours.... I did one with the 10 times table on to help my son with that and it seemed to help him.... I got him to help me make it and asked him which number came next.... I purposely made mistakes and he corrected me, which was what I wanted him to do.... Once he visually sees it he might remember far easier....

Reason I'm saying something he likes as familiarity is the key for them.... Association will help him to remember.

I have 4 kids! They all learn at different times and in different ways! Try putting numbers all over your house! Get him to see them all the time! He may need to learn by seeing! Over and Over! My 6 year old is the same way! I will pray for him too! I have all confidence in GOD to help him! GOOD LUCK & GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
