Have an 8 week old male kidden. He is eating Natural Life smashy food and dry normal adult kiddy food. Plus special soy ogranic milk. He loves his food and he eats six small meals over the day. Is this adequatley enough for his growing process? Pet's mart is too expensive and I can't find special food anywhere else.

Kittens need food that are formulated especially for them, just to make sure that they receive all the fiber and nutrients that they need for healthy growth and function.

Yes you actually do need special kitten food. Kitten food has more vitamins and nutrients for a kitten. It helps develop it heart and nervous system. Go to your local Wal-Mart and get Iams or if thats to expensive get the off brand called Special Kitty. My kitten is on Iams and does wonderful with it. If you have a Dollar General you can get a bag of Iams that will last about two weeks for about 4 dollars. On the bag of ffod it will tell you exactly how much your kitten should eat of that food. I would also give the kitten less milk and more water because kittens shouldn't have a lot of milk. The site below should be able to help you with the feeding questions and find the perfect food for your kitten. Good Luck with your new kitten.

Kittens aren't usually weaned until 6-8 weeks of age. I would offer the kitten some KMR (kitten formula) in a tiny saucer or bowl. She needs this enriched formula to help her develop properly. It's OK to suppliment the kitten's normal diet (meaning mom) with kitten food. Generally, it's best to begin with canned kitten food, then after a couple of weeks move to dry kitten food. Each kitten develops at a different rate, just as human babies do. Also, since each kitten has the possibility of having a different father, there is the possibility that this kitty is several days younger than the other two. Female cats continue to mate for several days...

Yes, a cat that is less than a year old needs to be on kitten food. Adult food doesn't have the proper nutrition that a growing kitten needs, which can effect their development. The least expensive stuff would probably be Kitten Chow, which can you find in most supermarkets and discount stores. I feed both my cats Nutro Natural Choice, which they love very much. It's pricier than the supermarket brands, but it's not super expensive. I like the canned food because it doesn't stink.

that is plenty of food for your little kitten, but i would take out the milk. as kittens get older they cant digest the milk as well and it may cause them to vomit or get diarrhea. another thing i will tell you is that wet food tends to stick to the teeth and will cause more problems with the teeth as the cat gets older. i would keep him only on dry food or atleast only give him a tsp once a day. You also dont need a special food for him, but just make sure that is a well known brand and not a store brand food. The higher the quality the better for him. Goodluck with your kitten!

Your kitten should be eating food that is made just for kittens. It has the right amount of calories, vitamins, calcium and nutrients for him to grow up healthy. You do not neccessarily have to buy "specialty" food, althought the "better" brands are usually recommended, Cat Chow is acceptable. He should stay on kitten food until he is about a year, or when your vet recommends that he switch to adult food. Also, only give your kitten milk if it is recommended by your vet. Milk can cause him to have diarrhea or other digestive problems.
Good luck and enjoy your new kitten!

The kitten needs kitten food for the next 6 weeks or more. There are vitamins and nutrients in kitten food that help them develop and grow properly. Try Purina Kitten Chow. It is fairly inexspensive. But be sure to wean the cat food from one to the other so you do not upset its growing digestive system.
Good Luck.

Yes, they do need 'special' kitten food. Their digestive systems aren't equipped to 'handle' adult food yet. If you have a "Dollar General" near you... or any other store 'like' that... go there, grab a bag of "kitten chow"...and give the kitty 'that'. The soy milk, you can probably wean him off of soon... probably around 10 wks of age. Just be sure to get the 'kitten food'... the benefits of it, for the kitty, outweigh the 'adult food'.

Kittens need to have dry kitten food - can soften with water. Canned food rarely as a treat. Should have no milk - only clean water daily. You do not need to buy special food at all - any store brand has a kitten dry food.

It doesn't matter what type of food you feed your cat as long as it agrees with your cat. My old cat used to ear Meow Mix only. My Current cats eat a reduced calorie cat food cuz one of them is fat. You want to look for something with good vitamin content. You might also consider reducing the amount of milk your cat eats and increasing the amount of water.
Sometimes it takes a few tries to find the right food that fits your cat. It took me 3 tries to find something that worked for my two kitties.
