Wholesome food stored constantly at 0 °F will always be safe. Only the quality suffers with lengthy freezer storage. Once thawed, however, microbes can become active, multiplying under the right conditions to levels that can lead to food borne illness. Since they will then grow at about the same rate as microorganisms on fresh food.
Shrimp, Shellfish 3 months raw, cooked 3 - 4 months.
As I do with fresh fish (my Dad taught me. I freeze all my seafood including fish in water. We would freeze fish for up to 10 months. After thawing, I could not tell the difference from fresh. Believe I've eaten plenty of fresh seafood.

I would not keep it in the freezer any longer than 3 months. You will risk freezer burn if you do.

3-6 months if wrapped properly.
