You can play it for as long as your conscious will let you, but when you get up the courage, you need to be honest with him. Even if you don't tell him who you really love, then just tell him that it isn't him. Don't just do it so you can be happy, do it so your child can see his/her mommy happy. Listen to your heart.

Well, you're leading him on. So, although you'll hurt his feelings, you have to end things now before he becomes even more attached.
Explain to him that you still have feelings for your childs father and that it wouldn't be fair to prolong the relationship with him anymore. Then, wish him the best of luck and drop contact with him.
