if your kitten is older than 8weeks go ahead and get frontline from your vet...it is safe to use on any age animal, but they only prescribe it for 8 weeks or older...if not do NOT use flea shampoo...the chemicals can harm your kitten. Try dawn dish soap and washing him in it, but make sure the kitten is bathed in warm water and is really dried off good. but Frontline is definitly your best bet. it will kill the fleas within 24-36 hours. but don't bathe her 48 hours before or 48 after applying the Frontline...Goodluck!

Fleas on Kittens
Dear Simba,
My cat Brandy has just had kittens a week ago. Her and the dog Max both had fleas but we didn't want to deflea Brandy while she was pregnant. Yesterday I found fleas on one of the kittens. My mum thinks this is really serious for new-born kittens. Is it? How can we get rid of the fleas so that we can give them away once they are ready? - Kelly M
Dear Kelly M,
Your mother is right in her concerns. Fleas can cause young kittens to become anemic. This is a potentially fatal condition in kittens.
Try to get the little guys, the mother cat, the dog and their environment flea-free as soon as possible.
Use a flea comb to gently remove the dirt and fleas from the fur.
Ask your vet for a flea spray that is safe to use on just born kittens, if you do not find a safe spray use the flea comb (always read the warnings)
If you used a spray, then:
Place the kitten on a towel for ~20 minutes and discard the towel with the dead and dying fleas that have come off.
After using a spray, you can give the kitten a bath in gentle soap (make sure water is lukewarm).
Towel dry the kitten towel-dry it.

Go to your vet and get Advantage flea treatment. The stuff at the discount stores like walmart don't work. It's more expensive but you won't believe the results. There is also a flea pill, I don't know what it's called, but I get it from my vet and use it with the Advantage. The fleas just fall off. Of course, if there are fleas on your cat then there are fleas in your house and they multiply in the millions from just a few eggs. I would recommend getting your house sprayed too. Just getting them off the cat won't do any good if you have a house full of them. I know, I just got done having my exterminator spray 2 x because of a bad bad flea problem.

My 3 week old kitten survived just fine when I gave her a bath using regular cat flea shampoo. When I got her at the shelter, she was infested and they put a dab of Frontline on her. It killed a few but she just had too many. Just make sure there are no drafts and the room is warm. Dry him well with a towel and comfort him after the ordeal!

Give the kitty a bath using Pert Shampoo. The vet told that works better then flea shampoo. Just don't get it their eyes and rinse it out good. Dry your cat off good and wrap in towel for awhile.

If the kitty is 'infested', really bad with them....try rubbing some vegitable oil on them... that smothers the fleas, and it doesn't hurt the kitty to lick that off. If you dont want to do 'that'... try bathing it in "Dawn" dish liquid.... makes the fleas 'drop' right off...........just be sure NOT to get it near or IN the eyes...and make sure you rinse the cat, VERY WELL !!!
