I never used to have this problem until I switched to rollies.
I've tried the bleach - I heard that you put it in with the washing up liquid while you wash dishes & that it also makes the dishes sparkling. I also tried the lemon juice. And scrubbing with salt & a green plastic dishwashing scourer.
I'm currently using a the bristly side of a dishwashing scourer & Carex handwashing soap & scrubbing. The most successful method I've tried so far.
However, the whitening toothpaste idea sounds quite good - though I'm not sure I'll have the patience to wait ... might also try that aquaeous cream & definitely the baking soda one.
The best advice I had (& not counting the give up advice) was to avoid holding the cigarettes in my fingers. Apparently, if you can't get hold of a cigarette holder, you just piece the side of it with a pin & hold the ciggie with the pin. Great advice ... but not really for me! Lol.
Just curious, if you hold the ciggie in your mouth, why doesn;t your nose get nicotine stains?

Dip your fingers in vinegar a couple times a day for a few minutes. That will take care of the stains gradually bleaching them. The real cure is joining a stop smoking group and using the money and time for more beneficial activities. On the quit day tell all of your friends and acquaintenances and then stick to your word. Your hands and fingers will become lilly-white and you will save your major organs.

This one may shock you but ...
... whitening toothpastes work well. Spread it on your fingers where the stains are and let it sit for awhile. If you have some white cotton gloves to put on, it will help keep you from messing with it while it works. You can also soak your fingers in lemon juice or hydrogen peroxide. Whitens fingernails too.

Stick your fingers in half a lemon. Scrubbing with Jif cream also works but only as an occasional method.
Also, get one of thosre lovely ciggy holders like Bet Lynch had.

I have heard that toothpaste or lemon juice works without damaging your nails. There are other methods but some of them are too harsh and may dry your out your nails.
