The answer is both yes and no. There are 2 types of caskets, metal and wood. Woood caskets are porous by nature, so if it isn't in a sealed vault, yes, termites will eat the casket. Metal caskets come 2 ways, gasketed or non-gasketed. Gasketed means that wehn the lid meets the base and is cranked shut, it creates a seal which prevents outside elements from entering the caskets. Non-gasketed caskets are the least expensive and offer no protection. Burial vaults come much the same way, some seal, some don't. All of this is a matter of personal preference, some people don't care if bugs get in, some want the very best. Hope this helps, take care!!

No they do not. If coffins were made to last forever, in a few hundred years, the ground would be full of them. They wood eventually breaks down and all kinds of bugs eat the flesh off the body. Eventually the bones may even break down (years later).
I am going to be cremated, as i wil take up less space, and wont need maintenance or anything.

Wooden coffins last about as long as any other buried wood. The worms eventually get ya. Termites eat wood-not people. No matter what ya do, we're all wormfood in the making. Even embalming doesn't stop worms, bugs and bacteria from breaking us down. It's a good thing-cycle of life and all that. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

My dear lady, termites will not eat your body. But they might eat your coffin if it is made of wood. When your body is dead what is the difference. If you don't like the thought of it get cremated and scatter your ashes over the garden and it will be the best for you and for the garden.Meanwhile enjoy life as fully as you can.

Termites are the least of your worries. They eat wood. You may want to worry about worms, and about your body's natural decomposition! (They do make air-tight coffins, but why worry, you're not going to need it again!)

not only seals but the coffin is placed in a cement vault that is sealed before being covered.
I always get a laugh when i think of the paperwork that came when we buried dad - the vault had a 75 year warrenty! like I'm going to dig it up in 60-70 years to see if it maintained it's seal :)

Termites prefer wood, however there are ants and roaches and other creepy, crawly, carnivorous things that munch on dead bodies.
