many Christians believe that DnD is an evil game. and mainly because the books such as the monster manual depict horrible monsters to fight and sometime describe them as demons.
and i understand that they see this as playing with evil and such.

some however go out of their way to lie about the game. one article that i read was from a Christian the claimed to have converted form Satanism and claimed that he showed the designers of the game his spellbook and tlaked for hours about real black magic rituals. so that they could make the game as real as possible. he claims that the first edition book "Eldrich Magic' depicts a woman being sacrificed on a statnic altar on the cover.
when in fact the book shows a woman (druidess) laying on a tree stump.

so my question here is.

if there were a game designed like DnD but the heroes were from biblical times and used the word of god to smite evil. and the stories took them through bible lessons would it still be evil and demonic?

i know that that paticular author is a fake, but i also know that he has a history of trying to sue people for defamation of character which is why his name is not mentioned.

his claims are outrageous at best and anyone that picks up a DnD book and looks at it woll sind tha there is virtually no mention of ritual just a spell discription a casting time and an effect all described in game terms.

DnD never hurt anyone... it's just a game! But yes, we heard many preachings against DnD at youth group meetings in the 90's. If it were Biblical-based, I don't think it would be "evil" anymore in Christian eyes because now good is overpowering the evil.

Just a thought: If witchcraft and magic were forbidden in the Old Testament... and the New Testament over-rides the OT... then why would it matter to any Christian at all about someone practicing magic?

I always loved DnD, but can't find any other 30-year-old Mommies to play with these days LOL.

In direct answer to your question, just do a Yahoo! search for Christian Board Games. You'll find plenty....

In regards to the topic in general, I am weary of any belief system or individual adherent that believes in such an absolute morality. I have a child, and I can understand why some people may want to shelter their children from certain negative thought forms. But ultimately, if these things are repressed they will create tensions within the individual. Rather, it is best to be open and accepting of all things, without judgment. In this way, the inherit goodness and spirit of the individual is not bogged down by what is ok and what is not ok.

There are indeed a few games out there like that--I'm trying to recall an excellent one a friend of mine brought back from GenCon one year...

I know the article you mention. I can't recall the author's name, but it's been pretty well proven that half of what he's said he's done never happened...just Google around on him a bit.

Besides, if all those people are having crazy occult experiences while playing D&D, how come I've never had one in all my time playing it? I'm disappointed!

I don't know much about Dungeons and Dragons my sons are more into Runescape. I think it is about the child and their maturity. Many of my fellow Christians think that Pokemon, Yugioh and other Video Games are intristically evil and harmful. I do not. My sons also read Harry Potter. They know the difference between fantasy and reality.
