I never capitalize the word atheist unless it initiates a sentence or is part of a proper name like the Atheist Community of Austin. I do this simply because the term atheist operates more as a descriptor. It simply describes an attribute of a disbelief of the existence of gods. That in my eyes does not make it a proper noun.

LOL no. I vascilate between capital and lower case letters without regard to proper grammar daily. This isn't a test, I'm not too concerned about those who get hung-up on jots and tittles.

It's pure Religious discrimination I say!

hi, you are You and atheists are not Atheists. Pedestals are far from fair and atheists belong on neither. Meaning since when do you (we) capitalize God, not gods, atheists are not an Atheist, sort of speak, that’s an oxymoron; You Are One Of.

Honestly, yes, because it is not a religion or anything important to me. I only capitalize Catholic, Christian, Jewish... So, it bugs me because it has nothing to do with God, it is like capitalizing Devil like you worship him/ her.

No, I don't have a problem with it. It may not be standardized usage, but who cares? Do what you feel.
