Tea 101: How To Brew a Perfect Pot of Tea

Good water is crucial:
For best results, use artesian water.
Fill an empty kettle with fresh cold water.
If using tap water, let the water run for 30 seconds so that it is fresh.

Warm your pot:
While the water is heating, fill your teapot with hot tap water to preheat it.
This prevents cracking that can occur when boiling water is placed in a room temperature pot, and it helps the brewed tea maintain the proper temperature.
Discard the water once the pot is warm.

Boil Water:
As soon as the water comes to a boil, remove it from the heat.
Overheating the water reduces its oxygen content and causes the tea to taste flat.
Immediately pour the water into the pot, cover, and let stand.
If using green or white tea, allow the water to cool slightly before pouring onto the leaves (ideal temperature 158°-203°F).
NOTE: At an altitude of 5000 feet, water boils at 202°F instead of 212°F, so you don't need to cool the water much.

Steep Your Tea:
How long to steep depends on how strong you like your tea and the type of tea you're using.
Do not judge by color because some teas brew light while others brew dark.
Small leaves brew more quickly and are usually ready in two to three minutes; medium leaves in three to five minutes; large leaves in six.
Most teas will taste bitter if you steep longer than six minutes.
If you have used an infuser or tea bags, remove them from the pot when the tea has reached the desired strength.
Tea bags steep more quickly because the leaves are finely cut, so don't let them steep too long. You may squeeze the bags gently before removing them from the pot to reduce drips (tea bag squeezers make this very easy).

And once you make the tea, keep the tea bag envelope to make charming gifts:

I love tea. Plain and simple. I drink it sweet and iced or sweet, creamy and hot. Here are recipes for both:

Iced:

Bring 6 cups of water almost to a boil on the stove (or in the microwave in a bowl). Remove from heat. Add 2 Family Size Tea bags (or 5 small bags). Let steep for 10 minutes. If you like it sweet, add sugar while the tea is warm and mix until blended. I usually add 1 1/4 cup, but you can adjust to tasted. Put tea/sugar mixture in a 2 qt. pitcher and fill to the top with cold water.

Hot:

Put a teapot on the stove and bring water almost to a boil. Remove from heat, Pour hot water in a mug or cup. (You can also just heat water in the microwave right in your cup.) Add tea bag and steep for 5 minutes. Add sugar and cream to taste.

Iced tea? I use my coffee maker. Fill the pot with water same as for coffee and put the tea bags in the cup where the coffee goes. For two quarts, I use 8-10 bags. While its hot add 1 cup of sugar and stir until melted. Pour into pitcher and fill remainder of pitcher with cold water. Put in fridge to cool. This is southern sweet tea.

I make mine a little different than anyone else (so I think) here goes, take a small saucepan (about 2 cups) add a cup of granulated sugar, fill with water and bring to a boil, yes, boil the sugar and water together, when it reaches its boiling point, turn off pot, drop 4-5 teabags in and let simmer for 10 minutes. take teabags out ,.pour tea in 2 quart pitcher, fill pitcher up with ice water and stir, the best tea you will ever taste, sweet too hope u like

Most the Iced tea is brewed at beer breweries which can use natural additives like Irish moss or plastic resins which when added to the brew attaches to the impurities and settle to the bottom. Not realistic for at home. Tip make more of the strong tea then you need chill it and allow to settle some of the particles will fall to the bottom and if you then poor off or scoop out the clearest concentrate before mixing with your sugar and lemons P.S. lemon juice will make it cloudy try steeping some lemon zest. Boil you water before you freeze it so that its crystal clear. Now after all that I would say get yourself a glass that's got a lot of design to it so that you dont notice the cloudiness

2. add sugar if preffered
3. pour in boiling water
4. jiggle around a bit
5. pour in milk
(you can leave bag in or remove before adding milk depending on how strong you like your tea)
